Description 
Lofty wide-spreading tree up to 15 m high, often cultivated as an ornament for its cylindrical fruits, which weigh up to 6 kg.
Distribution 
Tropical Africa from Eritrea and Chad south to northern South Africa, and west to Senegal and Namibia.

The fruits, very similar to large sausages, are eaten by baboons and other mammal species. The leaves are used as animal fodder.
