In memoriam: Prof. Dr. Rainer Schultze-Kraft
We were saddened to learn of the death of Prof. Dr. Rainer Schultze-Kraft this year. Born in Germany in 1941, Rainer studied agronomy and earned his PhD in Justus Liebig University, Giessen (Germany). In 1973, he started working at CIAT where he helped to set up CIAT's genetic resources unit and collected more than 20,000 accessions of tropical forage legumes adapted to hot, arid areas with poor, acid soils. He also defined the taxonomy of the legumes collected and published 4 taxa: Centrosema tetragonolobum Schultze-Kr. & R.J. Williams, Centrosema macrocarpum var. andinum Schultze-Kr. & Belalc, Stylosanthes venezuelensis Calles& Schultze-Kr. and Stylosanthes falconensis Calles & Schultze-Kr.
Prof. Dr. Rainer Schultze-Kraft was also one of the authors of the great Tropical Forages interactive selection tool.
We at Feedipedia had the chance to meet Prof. Dr. Rainer Schultze-Kraft during a workshop organised by ILRI in Addis Ababa in 2015. If you would like to learn more about his career and achievements, we are honoured to share Teodardo Calles' paper with you here: https://rdcu.be/dQfND
