Feed databases

This website allows you to search the USDA Food Composition Databases: USDA National Nutrient Database and USDA Branded Food Products Database. You can search the database by food item, food group, or manufacturer's name to find the nutrient information for your food items. You can also generate lists of foods sorted by nutrient content.

GLEAM-i (Global Livestock Environmental Assessment Model-interactive) is a new, user-friendly tool developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for estimating greenhouse gas emissions in the livestock sector. This feed table summarizes available information on chemical composition, digestibility and energy values of locally available feed-stuff resources in Eastern and Central Africa. It acts as a guide to proper feeding of animals and is therefore very useful to livestock advisors and progressive farmers.

Cumulative statistics on samples analyzed and compiled by the Dairy One Forage Lab in the United States. It is updated on an annual basis to continually broaden the scope of the database.

The Invasive Species Compendium (ISC) is an encyclopaedic resource that brings together a wide range of different types of science-based information to support decision-making in invasive species management worldwide. It comprises detailed datasheets that have been written by experts, edited by an independent scientific organization, peer reviewed, and enhanced with data from specialist organizations, images, and maps, a bibliographic database and full text articles.

Ecocrop (FAO) permits the identification and comparison of more than 2300 plant species on environmental requirements in all agro-ecological settings of the world. Textual information also includes a brief description of the species, its use, synonyms, common names and notes. 

Vegetox contains 160 monographs of plants toxic for farm animals or pets, and a image database of 600 photos.

Reference that includes plant images, pictures of affected animals and presentations concerning the botany, chemistry, toxicology, diagnosis and prevention of poisoning of animals by plants and other natural flora (fungi, etc.).

These factsheets include a quick visual key to help quickly identify weedy trees, shrubs, vines, herbs and grasses found in Hawaii.

PROSEA (Plant Resources of South East Asia) is an international cooperative program with the main goal of documenting information on plant resources in South East Asia, and making them widely available for use by the education, extension, research and industry sectors as well as for the end users. 

NewCROP (New Crops Resource Online Program) is an information-rich site related to crop plants. It is a project of the Purdue University Center for New Crops and Plant Products and is associated with the New Crop Diversification project and the Jefferson Institute.

The Post-harvest Compendium (FAO) covers the key issues in post-harvest operations or post-production activities for staples and other food crops. It is designed to provide technical, updated information about how, when and what is done after production of the crops in different communities around the world.

GrassBase include flora style descriptions for all grass species. It can be browsed or used to identify grass species. The synonymy database allows users to find the accepted name, synonyms and distribution for a grass species using any of its synonyms.

The Swiss feed database includes information on more than 600 feeds available in Switzerland including raw materials and fodder.

GRIN Taxonomy for Plants (USDA) includes all families and genera of vascular plants. More than 50,000 species from throughout the world are represented, especially economic plants and their relatives. Information on scientific and common names, classification, distribution, references, and economic impacts are provided.

The Grassland Index (FAO) contains detailed descriptions of more than 600 grassland species and a linked picture gallery of photos.

ILDIS is an international project which maintains a database of plants in the family Fabaceae (Leguminosae) and provides services to scientists and other people interested in these plants

Plants that are not normally considered as crops are consumed in times of famine. This website provides insight to potential new food sources that ordinarily would not be considered.
