Abstract

An experiment was conducted to find out the effect varying the levels of sunflower meal in the diets of growing cattle on the intake of the following: dry matter intake (DM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), nitrogen free extract (NFE), neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF) and mineral content (MC). The effect on liveweight gain was also evaluated. 24 cattle fed with 0, 15%, 30% and 45% sunflower meal in the diet were examined after 84 days and results showed that the intake for DM, CP, NFE, and MC were not affected by the different levels of sunflower meal in the diet. However there is a linear reduction in the EE intake and a linear increase in NDF and ADF with increasing levels of sunflower meal. No significant effect on liveweight gain was also observed.
