Abstract

During a 94-day period, in the rainy season, a group of four crossbred cows had access to a multinutritional block (10% urea, 30% molasses, 5% minerals) during a limited period of 3 hours daily following milking. A similar group was unsupplemented and served as controls. During the remainder of the day all animals grazed pastures of Brachiaria mutica and Digitaria decumbens. Milk production was 4.38 and 4.19 (SE ¦0.61 ) kg/day and liveweight change 0.42 and 0.048 (SE ¦0.19) kg/day, for the supplemented and control groups respectively.
