Literature was reviewed aiming to compile empiric, technical and scientific information about the use of the banana plant (Musa spp.) for the control of parasites in domestic animals. The analysis of the data shows the necessity of a multidisciplinary search in order to collect information about the palatability and consumption related to animal category and species, associated to helminth control extent. Important aspects about the plant biology, time of administration, as well as chemical and bromatological analyses of the plant materials are sparing. The search information indicate that the use of leaves have anthelmintic effect. However, in the main cases, references about the control extent and the parasite species controlled are missing. The lack of these pieces of information and the large heterogeneity of the formulations are hindrances for the utilization of the banana plant as unconventional treatment for the control of helminths and other parasites.Further scientific studies are recommended in order to furnish secure and detailed manegement techniques for the utilization of the banana plant to control parasites in domestic animals.
