Description 

Species of the Aristida genus are all xerophytic grasses with stiff culms, narrow leaves covered with a thick cuticule well suited to dry climates (Gillet, 1961).

Ruminants 

Herbage quality good in young plants but avoided by stock after flowering when they become hard and prickly. Eaten only if more palatable grasses not available.
